Q: How many Canada Geese have died from bird flu at Lake Panorama?
A: We asked this question to Jeremy King of the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and did not receive a response by press time. So, we also asked John Rutledge at the LPA office, and he stated that they are aware of an estimated 200.
Q: What is an LSV, and how does it differ from a golf cart?
A: An LSV (low speed vehicle) is fitted with turn signals, parking brakes, rearview mirrors, headlights, mirrors and vehicle ID numbers. LSVs are federally endorsed to serve as street legal vehicles. Under Federal Law, the vehicles are classed as low speed cars and as four-wheeled cars that weigh less than 3,000 pounds. LSVs can travel up to 35 mph, while a golf cart is limited to a maximum speed of 20 mph. Iowa law is less stringent regarding golf carts in comparison to LSVs. In Iowa, golf carts do not need to be registered. Nonetheless, if you drive an LSV, you do need a full driving license, and the vehicle has to be registered and insured.
According to section 4.5 of the LPA Rules and Regulations, golf carts may be operated on LPA roadways during daylight hours. Golf carts with proper vehicle lighting (as for automobiles) may be operated on LPA roadways outside of daylight hours. Operators shall have a valid driver’s license in their immediate possession or a valid learner’s permit. Operators using a valid learner’s permit shall be under the direct supervision of an adult who holds a valid driver’s license.
