Agenda Item 4c – LPA Rule 5.2(c)(1) Increase Pontoon Outboard Motor Limit from 200hp to 250 hp
Water Safety Committee (WSC) reviewed Rule 5.2(c), regarding the horsepower limit for outboard motors on pontoon boats. The committee was asked by a member to consider increasing the size of outboard pontoons from 200hp to 300hp as the boats are generally considered to be underpowered with 200hp outboard motors. After a lengthy review of boating specifications and safety considerations, the WSC determined 300hp was excessive, but 250hp was warranted. A majority of the WSC recommended the board of directors increase the limit on pontoon boat outboard motors from 200hp to 250hp.
