For the second year, local chefs are gearing up to raise money for improvements on the Lake Panorama National golf course. On Sunday, Oct. 19, the 20 Men Who Can Cook event will feature local men preparing one or more of their favorite dishes to share with those in attendance.

The event will be held at The Captain’s Pick at Lake Panorama National Resort. Each chef will prepare enough food to provide at least one sample per guest. A cash bar will open at 4 p.m. and remain open until 7 p.m. Food samples will be available 4:30 p.m. through 6:30 p.m. There will not be a formal program; guests can come and go anytime during the three-hour time period.

Funds raised in the first event held in October 2024 was used to make significant improvements to four tee boxes on the LPN golf course. Proceeds from this year’s event will support the renovation of the course’s driving range.

Chris Duree, a member of the LPN Board of Managers, had helped organize and been a guest chef in similar events in other communities. He brought the idea to Lake Panorama in 2024 and is leading plans for the 2025 event.

“People thoroughly enjoyed the good food, the camaraderie and the social aspect at our first event last year,” Duree says. “These are a lot of fun, and we hope people from Lake Panorama, Panora and surrounding communities will join us again. We want this to be an annual event that people look forward to attending year after year.”

Food samples will be available in four general categories — appetizers, main dishes, side dishes and desserts. Stations with the chefs and their food samples will be set up around the perimeter of the banquet room. Various sized plates, bowls, napkins and plastic utensils will be available for guests to use as they visit and pick up food samples that interest them.

A bonus to the 20 Men Who Can Cook are a few women who wanted to be involved, and will prepare desserts to sample.

Tables where guests can sit and enjoy their food samples will be available in the banquet room, dining room and the bar area. Advance tickets are $50. A limited number of tickets will be available at the door, at a cost of $60.

Advance registration by Oct. 12 is encouraged so organizers can plan accordingly. Online registration can be done at lpnresort.com/4oYYoXa. Registration forms also are available in the LPN pro shop and can be completed and given to pro shop staff, along with a check made payable to Friends of Lake Panorama.
