Ballots were mailed in late September to all Lake Panorama Association (LPA) members regarding proposed changes to the LPA Bylaws. Now, LPA encourages members to complete and return their ballots in advance of a special meeting Oct. 15.
The bylaws convey certain authorities from the LPA membership to the LPA board of directors and cannot be changed by the board. Instead, changes must be voted on by LPA members.
The last membership vote that led to changes in the LPA Bylaws was 15 years ago.
“Although most have aged well, there are some sections where updates are needed,” John Rutledge, LPA general manager, says. “In many cases, the changes are minor and simply bring the bylaws up to date with how the LPA currently operates.”
At its July meeting, the LPA board of directors voted to ask the membership to amend the bylaws. An informational meeting was held Aug. 12 where feedback on the proposed changes was received then later incorporated into the final version of the proposed bylaws.
The ballot mailing included a written summary of proposed changes plus a website link where the full document with the proposed changes highlighted can be viewed. Members who prefer a hard copy may contact the office and get a copy at no cost.
A letter from Dave Finneseth, LPA board president, also was included with the ballot mailing. He said the proposed changes are the result of careful study by the LPA Board of Directors, LPA management and LPA’s attorney.
“We believe these changes represent important updates to the bylaws, which were last modified 15 years ago,” he said. “We encourage you to vote ‘yes’ on this ballot measure.”
Also included in the mailing was a numbered envelope that must be used when returning completed ballots.
Ballots in these numbered envelopes can be mailed or delivered to the LPA office but must arrive no later than 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 15. Ballots can also be brought to the meeting that evening, which will begin at 6 p.m. at the Lake Panorama National conference center. The only business to be conducted at this meeting is the final tabulation of returned ballots and announcement of the results.
