Laura Kemble is shown with the bench she and her two siblings donated to Lake Panorama National in memory of their father. Paul Scott passed away in July 2025. For more than 20 years, he played golf at both LPN and Panorama West. The bench is on a concrete pad adjacent to the ninth hole tee box.

A new bench now is in place at Lake Panorama National golf course. The bench was donated by the family of Paul Scott, who passed away in July 2025 at the age of 99. The 72-inch black steel bench is installed on a 10-foot by 7-foot concrete pad adjacent to the ninth tee box.
A bronze plaque on the bench reads: “In Loving Memory of Paul W. Scott. A life well played, a spirit that soared.”

“My parents decided to move to Lake Panorama after coming here to help me plan our wedding in 1988,” Kemble said. “They always wanted to retire by a lake. They contacted Dave Arganbright and Mom asked him to build her dream home on the lot across from Boulder Beach. Construction began in 1993. They moved in right before Christmas that year and lived almost 20 years in that home.”
The house had a view of Lake Panorama to the west and the ninth fairway of the golf course to the east.
“Dad didn’t golf much until he retired,” Kemble said. “He loved playing golf but didn’t really have time until then. When he and Mom bought their lot on the ninth hole, it was the perfect fit for him. In his later years, he also played a lot at Panorama West and once got a hole-in-one there. He loved the golf community here and made so many great friends.”
After Scott’s death, the family had some memorial money to spend.
“My brother, Mike Scott, my sister, Beth Gates, and I decided Dad would have loved having a bench on hole nine,” Kemble said.
The Scott bench matches guidelines set by Lake Panorama National Resort for bench donations on the golf course. Others interested in donating a similar bench can contact Royce Shaffer by email at rshaffer@lakepanorama.org or call 641-755-2080, ext. 219.
