A fundraising event that has been successful elsewhere but is new to the Lake Panorama and Panora community makes its debut Sunday, Oct. 20 at the Lake Panorama National event center. 20 Men Who Can Cook will feature 20 local men preparing one or more of their favorite dishes to share with those in attendance.

Each chef will prepare enough food to provide at least one sample per guest. A cash bar will open at 3 p.m. and remain open until 7 p.m. Food will be available 3:30 p.m. through 6:30 p.m. There will not be a formal program; guests can come and go anytime during the four-hour time period.

Funds raised will support planned improvements on the Lake Panorama National golf course.

Chris Duree, a member of the LPN Board of Managers, has helped organize and been a guest chef in similar events in other communities before moving to Lake Panorama. He presented the idea to the LPN board earlier this year during discussions about the LPN Capital Fundraising Campaign.

Food will be available in four general categories — appetizers, main dishes, side dishes and desserts.

Here are the names of the 20 men who volunteered for the Oct. 20 event and the dish they plan to prepare: Garrett Armstrong, beef or pork tenderloin; Mason Babcock, cheese bread; Jeff Bump, wings; Mark Chew, venison; Chris Duree, butternut squash ravioli and bisque; Mike Faga, party potatoes and charcuterie; Sean Grambart, baked beans; Keith Ketcham, bacon, garlic and Parmesan potatoes; and Rick Langel, Calico Beans.

Scott Miller and Jim Tometich are teaming up on Scooter’s famous red chili; Brett Monaghan, smoked pulled pork chili; Kane Powell, bacon mac ‘n cheese balls and bacon coleslaw; Galen Redshaw, pulled pork sliders; Rob Robson, bacon wrapped water chestnuts; Carl Snowden, baby back pork loin ribs and broccoli in cheesy cream sauce; Jim Tibbles, brisket sliders; Mike Trebon, smoked salmon dip and crackers; Dave Wagler, jalapeno poppers and burnt ends; Corey Welberg, beef and sausage meatballs; and Paul Wendl, pork kebabs.

Tables where guests can sit and enjoy their food samples will be available in the banquet room, dining room and the Links bar area. Advance tickets are $30. A limited number of tickets will be available at the door at a cost of $35.

Advance registration by Oct. 13 is encouraged at lpnresort.com/3XVJ0PJ. Registration forms also are available in the LPN pro shop and can be completed and given to pro shop staff, along with a check made payable to Friends of Lake Panorama.
