For the sixth consecutive year, Panora will host the Raccoon River Valley Walk to End Alzheimer’s. This year’s walk is Saturday, Oct. 3.
The fundraising event is one of more than 600 walks held annually across the country and is part of the world’s largest fundraiser for Alzheimer’s care, support and research.
The Raccoon River Valley Walk begins at the Michael Mills Memorial Park, Southeast Fifth Street in Panora. Registration starts at 8:30 a.m.
An opening ceremony will begin at 9:30 a.m., followed immediately by the 2-mile walk, which includes a portion of the Raccoon River Valley Trail.
On walk day, participants honor those affected by Alzheimer’s by carrying flowers of various colors, with each color representing a personal connection to the disease.
More than 7 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease in the United States. In addition, nearly 13 million family members and friends provide care to people living with Alzheimer’s and other dementias.
In Iowa, more than 62,100 people are living with the disease, and 80,000 caregivers provide support.
