Iowans know spring weather can be volatile, and this spring certainly has followed that trend. For instance, they were not surprised by summer temperatures on Monday followed by a blizzard on Friday. Severe thunderstorm watches and warnings, plus tornado watches and warnings, have become common.
April 15 was one of those days. A severe thunderstorm watch was issued early that afternoon for 13 Iowa counties, including Guthrie County. By late afternoon, that watch turned into a warning with forecasters predicting the possibility of heavy rain, large hail and high winds.
Clouds began to form, and Lake Panorama residents stepped outside to take photos, which were soon posted on social media.
Nature photographer Trish Hart was among those documenting the strange and colorful cloud formations. She and her husband Scott live in a home on Andrews Cove. This month’s photo shared by Hart was taken from the deck of their home looking south toward the lake.
Fortunately, clouds in the Panora area produced only rain. Other areas of Iowa weren’t as lucky that day.
Hart offers custom prints of her photos on canvas, paper, metal and glass. Learn more by visiting Nature’s Canvas Photography on Facebook.
